It was an absolute pleasure to do this project. Unfortunately my photograph doesn’t do justice to the level of detail and workmanship on this goldwork dragon. One thing that isn’t apparent from the photo is that the dragons wings are wired adding a 3-D element to the work That is why the customer settled on a deep box frame with the mounted dragon floated off the base of the frame with foamcore.
As well as being beautiful, these embroideries hold deep personal significance for the customer. They were already mounted but were in separate frames and the customer wanted them presenting together in a new frame based on a subtle, understated colour scheme allowing the delicate colours of the embroideries to be the star of the show. The customer visited my Nottingham picture framing studio where we took time to consider several options before arriving at the final frame design. A double mount of smoke grey and off white textured was used whilst the frame, a scoop, was finished with Farrow & Ball Hardwick White and Liming Wax.
