Brought to me by one of my regular clients, this charming little oil painting depicting St Ives cottages needed a gentle clean and thin coat of varnish before re-framing began. The new frame was hand-finished with various colour washes to compliment the picture before waxing and finishing with dry pigments and a final polish.
This parcel gilt frame was completed for a client this week. Various colour washes, waxes and dry pigments were applied to achieve a rich but subtle finish that would sit well with the picture and the clients home decor.
This frame was created for Mark Beaven who runs the Nottingham Art Studio. Mark, who trained at Chelsea and Camberwell schools of art in London, offers courses in painting and drawing for all abilities with classes currently based at The Place, Sherwood Activity Centre.
This frame has had its outer edge water-gilded in 23K gold which was then gently distressed to reveal the red bole beneath. I have used it to frame one of my own paintings in readiness for the Nottingham society of Artists Autumn Exhibition which runs from 18th to 26th October at St Lukes House, Friar Lane, Nottingham.
